Any business can get behind on their energy bills. One set back and you can feel yourself being swamped by bills. This is a problem that affects many business and there are solutions to prevent the problem from getting worse.
Speak to your supplier
Before you do anything else speak to the people that are supplying your energy.
They will help you to organise a repayment plan to allow you to pay off the missed bills one by one and also carry on with your monthly scheduled payments. Most companies have an entire department dedicated to helping people in this situation. The best thing you can do is be honest with your supplier, this will prevent your energy being disconnected. Disconnections can occur just 14 days after suppliers give notice to customers so you need to act fast.
Don’t pay too much in the first place
The quickest way for a company to fall into arrears is by paying to much in the first place. Always make sure you are on the cheapest rate possible. If your contract is coming to an end or you are able to switch suppliers then now is the time to start looking for a better deal.
If you are not in a position to change now, be prepared for when you can. Put a reminder in your calendar so that you can check for the better deals at the right time.
If you owe money to a supplier you won’t be able to switch suppliers until all outstanding bills are settled.
